Four sodalite macaws — the most birds Fabiano has ever placed on a single formation — cascade down a towering amethyst pillar extracted from the mines near Diamantina. Each bird was carved from sodalite sourced from a different depth, creating four distinct shades of blue that deepen from sky at the top to midnight at the base.
The amethyst tower itself is extraordinary: a natural column formation with crystals that catch light from every angle. The topmost macaw spreads its wings in a gesture that Fabiano describes as 'announcing.' The three below settle into postures of rest and watchfulness. Together they create a descending spiral of blue against violet.
"Four birds is dangerous. One wrong angle and the whole piece loses its balance. But these four — they found their own balance. I just listened."
