Rose quartz wings spread wide against an emerald serpentine column — this eagle appears to launch from the darkness of the earth into open air. The serpentine base was carved into stacked geometric blocks, giving the piece an architectural quality that grounds the organic movement of the bird above.
Gold leaf particles seem to fall around the sculpture in every photograph, but in reality the rose quartz itself contains micro-inclusions of rutile that catch light in exactly this way. What looks like gold dust is the stone's own inner fire, revealed by Fabiano's polishing technique.
"This bird is not flying away. It is flying toward something. You can see it in the angle of the head."
