The amethyst cathedral at the heart of this piece is one of the largest Fabiano has ever worked with — a geode that took three men to extract from the mine at Ametista do Sul. When they split it open, they found a cavity large enough to hold a small garden. Fabiano placed hand-carved crystal flowers inside and designed a water feature that flows through the natural channels of the stone.
Three rose quartz macaws — each carved from a different formation to capture three distinct shades of pink — perch on the cathedral's surface. The largest bird extends one wing as though about to take flight. The fountain illuminates from within, casting light through the amethyst crystals and the water alike. It is a living piece.
"I wanted to make a piece that felt like discovering a garden inside the earth. Because that is exactly what happened."
